Mountain View Ward MCA Maurice Ochieng is stepping up efforts to consolidate his grassroots political base as he seeks a third term, turning to Luo community leaders to rally support for his re-election.
Speaking to members of the Luo community in Mountain View, Ochieng urged local leaders to become ambassadors for his political campaign while also backing President William Ruto and ODM leaders associated with the broad-based government.
Ochieng sought to frame the political alliance as a continuation of the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga’s political strategy, urging the community not to be swayed by opposition voices.
“We respect Baba so much and, truth be told, he left us in the broad-based government. So don’t be cheated or swayed by naysayers in the opposition,” Ochieng said.
He challenged community leaders to mobilise support for his third-term bid alongside Ruto’s re-election campaign, presenting the two as part of a wider political strategy.
“You are my ambassadors. Support me, the President and other ODM leaders that you see next to you because that’s the only way to jealously protect what Raila left us,” he said.
The meeting offered Ochieng an opportunity to strengthen his ties with community leaders while positioning himself within the shifting political alliances ahead of the next General Election.
His approach also reflects the increasingly localised nature of political mobilisation, with leaders seeking to secure the backing of influential community networks as they prepare for another election cycle.
Luo community elder Joseph Omulo backed Ochieng’s political direction, saying residents were satisfied with his leadership of the ward.
“We are happy and much comfortable with the direction given by Hon. Maurice. Actually, we know him as a leader and under his stewardship we will not go wrong. Because Mountain View Ward ni ODM,” Omulo said.
The endorsement gives Ochieng an early boost as he seeks to retain the Mountain View Ward seat, while his appeal for support for Ruto and ODM leaders places his third-term campaign within the broader political realignment taking shape ahead of 2027.
For Ochieng, the message to the Luo community was therefore twofold: maintain support for the political arrangement he associates with Raila Odinga while ensuring his own political machinery remains firmly rooted in Mountain View.
